Biking/Camping Trip Checklist

Lately, I’m deep into the preparation of several trips, including two biking tours during which I’ll camp on the road with no electricity or technology whatsoever. Needless to say, it requires a lot of preparation. Good thing is: I LOVE CHECKLISTS. So I thought I’d let you know what I think is essential to bring, in case some are thinking about doing a similar trip.

The Heavy Part

  • Tent (the smallest, lightest you can find)
  • Tarpaulin (one for under the tent, and one that can be used as a raincoat for the bike and your stuff, in case of rain)
  • Self-inflating pad (some can be found as light as 2lbs)
  • Sleeping bag
  • Pillow (there are also inflatable pillows out there, but I find it more comfortable (and lighter, and cheaper) to cut half of an old pillow and cram it in my backpack)
  • Elastic ropes
  • Bike bags
  • Helmet
  • Gloves
  • Bike 😉

The Cooking Gear

  • Foil sheets (you can wrap your veggies in them and cook them directly in the fire)
  • Ziploc bags
  • Camping pot
  • Grid for the fire
  • Utensils and plate

  • Travel towel
  • Toothbrush
  • Toothpaste
  • Tissues
  • Insect repellent
  • Sun lotion
  • Shampoo
  • Soap
  • Face cream
  • Flip flops
  • Medical kit

  • Tops
  • Pants (Cushioned for long days on the bike 😉 )
  • Raincoat
  • Bathing suit
  • Underwear
  • Pajamas
  • Sunglasses

  • Flashlight
  • Whistle
  • Bicycle tube (and other tools to repair your bike in case something happens)
  • Notebook and pen (because I’m a writer)
  • Book (because I’m a reader)

There you have it! My ultimate checklist for biking trips. Some people need more, some people need less. Whatever works for you, as long as you keep in mind that you’ll have to carry everything 24 hours a day!

Have fun on your adventures 🙂
