Season 1 Finale
At the end of the Color Stage, Malone transfers a file into our wristbands, telling us it will only be available for two hours. Then it starts pouring and the wind takes a violent turn, so we all hurry to get home. I open the file in the warmth of my bed, with the rain rattling against my window.
The file includes thousands of banned information and pictures about famous paintings.
I look at the beauty and the paint strokes I would never have dared to try in my wildest dreams. Some of them don’t make any sense, but they hit me anyway. Like there’s a the story between the line of each color.
So many of them.
Times flies in a blink. The file autodestroys before I can learn any of the painters’ names. And I understand a little bit better why all the Arts were banned five years ago. Because if I had access to this 24/7 I would spend all my days admiring the paintings, and I would never be helping the cause.
And even if I’m in the Troupe, I do think the cause is important.
We’re fighting against a countdown to the biggest flood Earth will ever known, so big we don’t even think any land will be left.
I feel terrible for sneaking out and spending the night playing with paint when more people see their houses gone every day. Most people find it easy to get up at five and give all their energy and time to the cause, and I feel like the most selfish human being ever, but that’s not enough motivation for me.
My reason to live is my colors. And if I’m asked to volunteer a lifetime to save a planet that won’t be allowed to see them, I honestly don’t see why it’d be worth saving.
