Book Discussion – Peter Pan

Author: J.M. Barrie

Genre: Children Literature

Pages: 217

Publisher: Puffin Classics

Synopsis

Do I really need to tell you what this book is about? Let’s just say, All children, except one, grow up.

(A.k.a one of my favourite quotes EVER.)

My Thoughts

I didn’t think I’d enjoy it THAT much. I’ve seen a lot of movie adaptations of this novel so I thought reading the book would be a little boring, to be honest, because I know exactly where it’s going and how it ends. BUT MAN.

THIS WAS SO GOOD.

Will they reach the nursery in time? If so, how delightful for them, and we shall all breathe a sigh of relief, but there will be no story.

It’s so well written, and funny, and amazing. I think I won’t have a choice but to write a Top 10 Quotes of his book like I did for Turtles All the Way Down because I have over twenty lines that I loved so much I need to share them.

Of course I already knew I would be giving this book 5 stars before I read it, because the story of Peter Pan is my favorite childhood story ever, but now I feel like giving it a gazillion stars. J.M. Barrie’s writing style is so unique. Not only the plot is crazy original but there’s a touch of creativity in every little detail, and that makes the experience of reading this classic so captivating.

Like, honestly, can Neverland be real, people? I’m dying, here, I want to go SO BAD.

‘Do you want an adventure now,’ he said casually to John, ‘or would you like to have your tea first?’

Now, let’s talk about Peter.

***CONFESSION TIME***

My first crush ever was Peter Pan.

Like, I remember leaving my window a little bit open every night as a kid and praying Peter would appear and be like:

I think I loved Peter Pan’s cockiness in the book even more than in the movies. He was SO self-absorbed, but in an awesome way that makes you want to watch him all day just to know what he’s going to do or say next.

Anyway. That’s it for me! Now I want to know what you guys thought!

What’s your favorite Peter Pan movie?
(I think mine is
Hook.)

Have you read the book? Do you prefer the book or the movies?
(I can’t choose!)

If you could, would you stay in Neverland or choose to grow up?
(Neverland. Without a doubt.)

  1. Oh no, I forgot to read Peter Pan this month!!!!!!

I’ve seen “Hook”, the live-action “Peter Pan” from 2003 (holy crap it came out that long ago?!), and the animated Disney version. I also liked Peter Pan in the show Once Upon a Time – different storyline, but interesting and fun.

Neverland sounds fantastic – adulting sucks hahaha

    1. Hahah it sure does!

I’ve started the show Once Upon a Time a few years ago, but I haven’t made it to the part with Peter and Hook, and everybody keeps telling me it’s the best part haha. So I’m going to have to binge-Netflix that show really soon! 😀

Hope you’ll read it one day, it’s AMAZING.

  2. Read it a thousand times! Peter Pan is my OBSESSION. My favorite film is either Hook or Peter Pan (2003), or even the Disney one because of the soundtrack and bright colours.
I would much rather live in Neverland.
