2018 Reading Challenge

So I read 48 books this year, thus failing my goodread goal of 50, haha. But I still think it’s a lot considering how much travelling I did this year. (I don’t read as much when I’m travelling.) And also, I read an incredible amount of GREAT books this year so I feel accomplished, haha.

I have a LOT of travel plans for 2018 (Greece, Montenegro, Italy, Mexico, and small trips in Canada) so I’m going to try to stay realistic with my reading goals.

GOAL #1: Read 51 books

(I know, I know … I just failed 50 books, and I said I would stay realistic, but what can I say? I have the most annoying overachiever tendencies.)

GOAL #2: Read a book in Spanish

I did achieve that in 2017, and it really helped me with my Spanish, even if the book was a children book of only about 60 pages. But this year I want to read a longer one, with no pictures in it, haha.

GOAL #3: Buy a book only if I read 3 books on my shelf.

Some of you may know from my IG feed that I have a book hoarding issue. I recently rearranged my bookshelves and it hit me how serious the problem was haha. I literally have enough reading material for two years, but I just know I won’t be able to resist buying new ones anyway. So this goal is a compromise haha.

My room halfway through rearranging my shelves. Oups.

And that’s it for me!

What about you guys? What are your reading goals for 2018?

  1. I need to start rewarding myself for reading my owned books but first I need to start reading my owned books. =/ I try not to check out books but I can’t help it. I’m addicted to my library.

  2. Holy cannoli girl, that is a TON OF BOOKS THAT YOU HAVE!!!! Mine are in boxes (I won’t have bookshelves of my own until I move out) so I have to keep my inventory manageable by regularly donating books to my library’s semiannual book sales.

Whoa, 51 books! I wish you luck! I’m sure you’ll reach that goal 🙂

And have fun with the Spanish book! I tried to read a German book (“The Reader”, which had been made into a movie) but my German wasn’t quite good enough to make it a smooth read. If I return to my German studies, I’ll have to give that book another try.

    1. Ouh! Reading in German must really be a challenge! Good luck with that!
Yeah, I know, something needs to be done about my ‘buying-books addiction’ but I can’t help it they’re so effing pretty and I love them all so much!

  3. Okay, so this is going to sound weird, but I read around 70 books in 2017 and I’m pretty sure I’m not going to stop myself from reading even more this year but I’ve kept my goal down to 30 (outrageous, I know) because this year is kinda ridiculously important for me to spend studying to prepare for these huge exams next year and my Goodreads challenge is sort of a “There, There, Careful” warning for me to keep the books away once I exceed my goal.
Which is obviously not going to work.

  4. 51 books! That is a great number!! Good luck with that! I think is manageable xD and realistic haha

I want to start reading in Spanish too! I will be posting in Spanish more often haha good luck with that!

Que emocionante saber que hay bloggeros en español por estos rumbos ❤

  5. I had book hoarding issues too. I didn’t realise how serious this is until I am packing for south america. So my goal this year is that I won’t buy new books until I finish reading all my old books. Where and, when are you going to Mexico? I am going there the end of the month.

    1. Ahah, yeah when it’s time to pack them we realize just how many there are!

I’m already there! I arrived before New Year Eve’s, and I’ll be back home on the 15th. It would’ve been great to see each other in Mexico! 😮
