A Week of Traveling Feels Like a Year of Living

For those of you who don’t know, I’m in Europe! I landed in Paris on the 9th and my brain still hasn’t registered that I’m here because Eiffel Tower, Swiss Alps, and Tuscan sun in less than a week? How could that ever be for real?

And yet.

I’ll be posting about my trip in more details when I’m back home, but for now, I wanted to give you an overview of what I’ve seen so far so here it is:

PARIS

This was my second time in Paris. The first time had been back in 2012 with my sister and I have to say it was a little weird for me to come back without her. Everywhere I looked I had a memory linked to my sis. I was a jetlag of emotions and when I entered the Notre-Dame Cathedral, no kidding, I felt tears fill up my eyes. Not because I was awed or something profound.

Because I was just so freaking miserable and nostalgic.

So I decided to avoid the attractions I’d already visited with her and do the city differently. Make new memories.

Basically. I walked everywhere. I walked and got lost and took photos and just soaked into the city as much as I could. The architecture there is really amazing. There’s history at every street corner. I stopped at Les Deux Magots to write and get a bite, and that was amazing to think great authors such as Hemingway and Wilde used to go there to do exactly the same.

LUZERN

Then I took a train to Switzerland! I was really excited because I’d never set foot in Switzerland. It was always a little too expensive for my budget. It still is, to be quite frank, but I figured money is just money so whateva.

After terrible sleep in a night bus from Paris, a few hangovers, and poor food choices, I unsurprisingly got a flu on my arrival in Luzern, so I didn’t get to play the tourist as much as I’d wished, but fortunately for me the city is pretty small so it’s easy to enjoy the main attractions without even stepping into a bus.

My favorite was by far the Chapel Bridge because that’s like exactly the bridge in Harry Potter, right? I mean oh my god, that was a dream!

LAUSANNE

Still in Switzerland, I had the chance to be accomodated by a friend (hey, Vania!) I’d met in Nicaragua back in November. That was awesome, and if you read this, Vania, thank you again so much!

What I love about Switzerland is that you can see the snow-capped mountains from just about anywhere.

We went pedalboating in the middle of Lac Léman. Look at the beautiful mountains surrounding us!

TUSCANY

And now here I am.

Writing this post directly from Tuscany, in a little village just about 1h30 from Florence, Italy.

I rented an Airbnb for the week and I intend to write as much as I can. The goal is to finish a WIP I’ve been working on for way too long. So here I go. Wish me luck!

Yep! That’s all in just one week!

Isn’t it crazy?

Have you ever looked back at a week of travels (or else) and thought, man,
it feels like a year has gone by?

Let me know in the comments!

where are you going

Stay two minutes more and read the frist episode of Dean & Lily, which I’ll soon be launching in a beautiful little PDF book! 😀

  1. So how much time, in all, are you spending in Europe? I can’t wait to travel there again, but I feel like I need at least two weeks there to make the cost of airfare feel worthwhile. :-\

Lovely photos! I can’t wait to see and read more about your trip! 🙂
