Perfectly Hidden

they said something

that keeps haunting

my thoughts

they said

you’re not afraid

of anything

and i took a step back

into my past

stumbled in the moments

that led them to think

me so fearless

do they not hear

the constant dread

lacing my voice like

a fierce claw

do they not smell

the smoky worry

in each of my

pathetic attempts

at breathing

isn’t it the biggest tragedy

that you can get so skilled

at keeping it all

perfectly hidden

inside the fist

of your heart

nobody

notices

no more
