February Wrap-Up

Goals achieved:

  1. Read 5 books, including one in Spanish??? (feeling smart)
  2. Edited my manuscript Devonna and sent it to my agent (feeling awesome, and nervous AF what is this new life of mine?)
  3. Edited half of my other manuscript I’m writing in French (because who needs a social life? me. definitely me.)
  4. WENT ROCK-CLIMBING TWICE EVEN THOUGH I’M TERRIFIED OF IT AND THE OPPOSITE OF STRONG (feeling like a freaking ninja)
  5. Reached 1,000 followers on AWA (feeling proud)
  6. Put my flat on Airbnb to fund my next trip to Asia (feeling overwhelmed; I was not expecting that many reservations and requests in less than a week and this to become a second full-time job, but oh well, as I said, who needs a social life anyway? ME. OH MY GOD ALL THE WAY ME.)

7 Lines from my WIP

I felt like sharing some of my favorite lines from my story Dean & Lily! Even though I’ve postponed the release of Season 2 because I got an agent (bragging) and I’m focussing on another manuscript (busy busy), I’m still in the middle of writing and editing seasons 3 to 5 and the characters keep haunting me on a daily basis (help, plis).

So I thought I’d give them some attention and let them speak today. Here are 7 snippets from various seasons of Dean & Lily:

ONE

Dean drags me into a dark boutique, hides us inside a changing room, and grabs my face with one firm hand. That’s when I realize I’m hyperventilating.

“Hey, hey, look at me.”

I shake my head, panting. “I don’t want to be holding a gun.”

2018 in Writing

Funny how it felt like I hadn’t accomplished that much in the writing department this year, and when I sat down to make a list I realized it’s been an awesome year! Here are some of the highlights:

1. I got an agent!

I still can’t believe it. An actual agent is willing to represent my manuscript Devonna. HOW COOL IS THAT?

HOUR 8

“Okay, okay,” I mutter to myself as I walk toward the next room. “Calm down. It was all in your head. It’s all just in your head.”

It’s in your head.

It’s in your head.

It’s in your head.

I cross the hole in a wall where a door used to stand and step into a corridor with about five doors on each side of it. I open the first door on my right.

He’s in my room.

Mara is in the room. Continue reading “Night at the Asylum – Hours 8-10”

Editing a Short Story – Before & After

Editing is weird.

Part of me really hates it because work bleeehhh.

Part of me really loves it because the satisfaction in stripping down a piece of writing and making it sound much better is just addictive. So addictive in fact that it’s hard to take a step back from the work and realize that it’s as close as finished as it can be.

I recently edited a short story of mine, Pink Hair, Red Blood, and I felt like sharing an excerpt of the edited version with you guys. Just cause.

So here goes.
