Top 5 Tips for Staying Sane While Editing a Book

I’m currently in the process of editing a book AND writing a completly different novel in a different language and I’m trying not to go absolutely crazy so I’ve been looking for tips online on how to maintain mental stability while doing that.

I found nothing.

But I did manage to compile a few editing tips that are totally helping me keep my sh*t together!

The I-Wrote-a-Book-and-I-Need-to-Get-Away-to-Refuel Trip

Last month, I finished the first draft of my WIP, and it was really intense. At one point, I wrote 17 000 words in just a couple of days. Needless to say, I felt really empty and kind of depressed once it was over.

I wanted so badly to go back to the world of my book and write more dialogues between my characters, but I knew I had to get away from the story so I could come back to it with a fresh, editing eye.

So I went to the mountains.

More specifically, to Gaspésie National Park, in Quebec. Here’s my hiking/emptying-my exhausted-brain trip in photos. Continue reading “The I-Wrote-a-Book-and-I-Need-to-Get-Away-to-Refuel Trip”

Summer Goals Book Tag

Here’s the thing.

I took the summer off work to write 3 books and read 1000 books and travel everywhere and of course like always I set myself WAY TOO MANY GOALS AND I’M SLIGHTLY FREAKING OUT BECAUSE GUYS, JULY IS ALMOST OVER?

How?

Why?

Really how?

So I figured the best thing to do would be to play a game and pretend everything is all right. (I live in constant denial. Cheers to that.) Continue reading “Summer Goals Book Tag”

February Wrap-Up

Goals achieved:

  1. Read 5 books, including one in Spanish??? (feeling smart)
  2. Edited my manuscript Devonna and sent it to my agent (feeling awesome, and nervous AF what is this new life of mine?)
  3. Edited half of my other manuscript I’m writing in French (because who needs a social life? me. definitely me.)
  4. WENT ROCK-CLIMBING TWICE EVEN THOUGH I’M TERRIFIED OF IT AND THE OPPOSITE OF STRONG (feeling like a freaking ninja)
  5. Reached 1,000 followers on AWA (feeling proud)
  6. Put my flat on Airbnb to fund my next trip to Asia (feeling overwhelmed; I was not expecting that many reservations and requests in less than a week and this to become a second full-time job, but oh well, as I said, who needs a social life anyway? ME. OH MY GOD ALL THE WAY ME.)

2018 in Writing

Funny how it felt like I hadn’t accomplished that much in the writing department this year, and when I sat down to make a list I realized it’s been an awesome year! Here are some of the highlights:

1. I got an agent!

I still can’t believe it. An actual agent is willing to represent my manuscript Devonna. HOW COOL IS THAT?
